Hazel Moy
Personal statement:
Having left London to live in St. Ives in the 1970's I spent two years at Penzance Art School, learning to be a studio potter. At the time the strong influence of Bernard Leach and Hamada fed through to us all. After spending many years turning out identical 'brown' pots I revel in the wonderful range of glazes readily available now and use them as a set of paints. It is very important to me not to get stuck in a creative rut, so the pottery I now make is in limited production runs. This keeps the ideas and development flowing.
I teach pottery and arts & Crafts at Orchard Workshops. Kingswood in Bristol. In 2004 i began coppicing hazel at Westonbirt as part of the coppice restoration project, and now make greenwood chairs, benches and folding stools.
